What is BPH? Signs and Symptoms of BPH What is UROXATRAL?

BPH stands for Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia, commonly known as enlarged prostate, found only in males. As men age, the prostate may begin to enlarge. As its size increases, the prostate squeezes the urethra, potentially stopping or slowing the flow of urine and semen. This growth of the prostate may cause symptoms of BPH.

Signs & Symptoms of BPH:

* Feeling of incomplete bladder emptying
* Delay and difficulty in initiating a urinary stream
* Stopping and starting while urinating
* Weak urinary stream
* Dribbling at the end of urination
  * Pushing or straining while urinating
* Feeling of little warning when the urge of urination develops
* Frequent urination with short intervals
* Need to urinate during the night
* Inability to hold back urine

UROXATRAL is an alpha1-blocker for the treatment of the signs and symptoms of BPH. And it's only available by prescription from your doctor. BPH is very common. While men younger than 40 are rarely affected, it affects around 50% of men over age 50 and nine out of ten men 70+.

Unlike some other BPH treatments, UROXATRAL does not shrink the prostate. As an alpha-blocker, UROXATRAL works by relaxing the smooth muscle located at the bladder neck and around the prostate, relieving symptoms and improving urine flow.

UROXATRAL is a once-daily oral medication that provides relief of the signs and symptoms of BPH regardless of age (51-85) or prostate size.

INDICATION AND IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION

UROXATRAL® (alfuzosin HCI 10 mg extended-release tablets) is an alpha1-blocker for the treatment of the signs and symptoms of BPH.

Important Safety Information

Do not take UROXATRAL if you have liver problems or if you are taking antifungal drugs like ketoconazole or itraconazole, or HIV drugs like ritonavir.

UROXATRAL can cause a sudden drop in blood pressure, especially when starting treatment. This may lead to fainting, dizziness, and lightheadedness. Do not drive, operate machinery, or do any dangerous activity until you know how UROXATRAL will affect you. This is especially important if you already have a problem with low blood pressure or take medicines to treat high blood pressure.

Before taking UROXATRAL, tell your doctor if you have kidney problems.

Also, tell your doctor if you or any family member(s) have or take medications for a rare heart condition known as congenital prolongation of the QT interval.

BPH and prostate cancer can cause the same symptoms. However, UROXATRAL is not a treatment for prostate cancer.

The most common side effects with UROXATRAL are dizziness, upper respiratory tract infection, headache, and tiredness.
